FOAL Annual Meeting – President’s Message

The FOAL Annual Meeting will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 4 PM, in the current library meeting room. This is also a 30th Anniversary celebration of the Atascocita Branch Library, which opened May 5, 1996. The fabulous library staff have planned special programs and activities for all ages taking place during the afternoon and evening.

The Annual Meeting will feature the election of officers and presentation of the 2026-2027 budget. Announcement of the books honoring the FOAL board is always a highlight. Everyone is invited to come out and catch up on FOAL news and get the latest updates on the pending completion of the new meeting room, as well as other library projects and programs. A special anniversary cake and refreshments will be served.

Adults! We’re throwing it way back to celebrate the Atascocita Branch Library’s 30th anniversary! Break out your rad retro threads: flannel, butterfly clips, glitter, bold windbreakers, chokers, high-top sneakers—anything that screams peak 90s cool. Then warm up those vocal cords for some epic karaoke and dance like nobody’s watching!

This party will be ALL THAT and a BAG OF CHIPS, and is exclusively for adults. May 5, 6 to 7:30 PM

Saturday, August 9, FOAL will have a special sale. There are so many unique donations, including seasonal decor, craft items, and board games. Items you might find are priced from $0.50 to $150:

No rolling carts, please. Cash or Checks only.

FOAL Members get early access from 9am to 10 am on August 9.

From 10 am to 3 pm the sale opens to the public. Attendees are welcome to join FOAL at the door for $5 membership.

Even though annual book sales have not been possible for some time due to Covid, construction, and severe weather, FOAL book sale shelves are available in the lobby.

Volunteers fill shelves daily and usually someone is available in the afternoons to help our patrons. In addition to books, you’ll find DVD’s, CD’s, puzzles, board games, magazines and much more. All items are donated, allowing an ever- changing variety to choose from.

Currently, teaching materials and school related items have been popular, with holiday books, magazines, and décor soon to follow. Most paper backs are 50¢ and hard covers $1; cash only.

Everyone is invited to follow FOAL on Facebook. Snapshots of new and featured items will be posted regularly, with information concerning FOAL and library programs.

Your Adventure Begins at the Library!

Summer Reading Program officially launched June 3 and runs through August 3. That’s eight great weeks of new programs, new reads, and new adventures! Summer Reading is for all ages, so be sure to register online. Learn more about the summer reading program for all Harris County residents on the main library webpage, hcpl.net.

FOAL Annual Meeting, May 14

Delayed: Grand Re-Opening Celebration

While the library did re-open on December 13, the big celebration is this January 2024! With so many changes, it needs to be a two-day event. Be sure to check in at the library and through their social media pages, like Facebook, closer to the dates to see what is in store on January 26 and January 27!

Library re-opens December 13

December 13, 2023, the Atascocita Branch Library re-opens to the public! Libraries have always been more than just repositories of books; they are dynamic community spaces that foster learning, collaboration, and cultural exchange. The Atascocita Branch Library, with its commitment to providing access to information and promoting literacy, plays a vital role in the lives of the local residents. The recent renovations not only aim to improve the physical environment but also to enhance the library’s ability to serve as a multifunctional space for the diverse needs of the community.

A Grand Opening to celebrate the new meeting room is still being planned for early in 2024.

FOAL has been working hard as well, taking stock of their supplies and assets. Some of these items are up for sale. There are 7 large heavy folding tables priced at $10 each. These tables are 6’ long and in good condition.

Also a vintage slide projector that had been donated years ago. It has a receipt from 1971. It is in working condition, but needs a bulb replacement. FOAL is asking $25 for the slide projector.
